Recognizing & Celebrating Our Military Spouses at CWT

In May we celebrated Military Spouse Appreciation Day on May 9. Military Spouse Appreciation Day dates back to when President Reagan recognized the profound importance of spousal commitment to the readiness and well-being of military members with Proclamation 5184 in 1984. Congress then officially made Military Spouse Appreciation Day part of National Military Appreciation Month in 1999. The Department of Defense then standardized the date by declaring the Friday before Mother’s Day every year as “Military Spouse Appreciation Day” to show appreciation for the sacrifices of military spouses.

To celebrate Military Spouse Appreciation Day this month we held a virtual call to honor, recognize, and learn more about some of the military spouses that work at CWT. Our spouses come from all over the world and work in all sorts of different jobs at our company. We asked our spouses about what advice they would have for new military spouses as well as what some of their lessons learned have been throughout their spouses careers. Our military spouses recommended things such as learning about your spouse's military branch, taking advantage of programs for spouses, and learning and understanding how the military does things. Some lesson learned moments included finding a job where spouses can show their strength and shine, find activities to get involved in throughout your community, and that’s vitally important to find a network that will continually support you.

We recently surveyed some of our military spouses to learn more about them and their backgrounds. Here's what we learned:

  • The average Military Spouse at CWT lived on average at 3.72 different locations with their military spouse
  • CWT's Military Spouses have served and are serving all over the world ranging from Fort Sam Houston in Texas, Kaiserslautern in Germany, and Camp Hansen in Okinawa, Japan
  • Our Military Spouses have lived in over 40 different locations across the United States, Europe, and Asia
  • Our Military Spouses' partners served in each branch of the military with the Army being first at 38% and Navy second at 33%
