Traveling alone, especially to an unfamiliar place, can be a
bit daunting. We’ve compiled a few easy safety tips to give you some
peace of mind when you’re traveling.
Use the Latch and Deadbolt on Your Door
It’s a good idea to use both the latch and deadbolt whenever you are
in your room. Make sure both are functioning when you first enter your
room. If they aren’t working correctly, request a new room.
If Someone Knocks at Your Door, Make Sure they Identify Themselves
Another standard practice is that hotel staff who knock on your door
will identify themselves by saying “housekeeping,” “room service,”
“front desk,” etc. If someone knocks on your door, don’t open it unless
they have first identified themselves, especially if you aren’t
expecting any visitors or have not requested room service.
Familiarize Yourself with the Hotel Exits
Every hotel room will have a fire escape plan posted on the door
inside your room. Take a quick look at it so you know what to do if the
fire alarm goes off, especially in the middle of the night when you are
not quite awake.
