Having internet access has become important to many travelers when flying and airlines have taken notice. Most airlines now offer some form of fast and affordable internet service aboard their aircraft. Several airlines, including Delta and JetBlue and soon to be United, offer free Wi-Fi aboard their planes. See below for the current costs of inflight Wi-Fi aboard major airlines.
Delta Air Lines
Delta currently offers free Wi-Fi to Delta SkyMiles members aboard more than 700 of its planes including A220-300, A319, A320, A321ceo, A321neo, 737-800, 737-900 and 757-200H/D aircraft. It is free to become a Delta SkyMiles member. On aircraft where free Wi-Fi is not yet installed, Delta charges $7 per hour for basic Wi-Fi. All mainline Delta aircraft are expected to be equipped with fast, free Wi-Fi by mid to late 2025.
United Airlines
On domestic and short-haul international flights (Mexico and Canada), Wi-Fi is $8, or 800 miles, for MileagePlus members and $10 for everyone else. There is no cost to become a MileagePlus member. For all other flights, prices depend on where the flight is going and how long it is. Wi-Fi is not available on CRJ-200 and CRJ-900 aircraft. United recently announced that Wi-Fi will be free thanks to a new deal with Starlink starting on some aircraft in early 2025. The full fleet will have fast, free Wi-Fi by the end of 2025.
American Airlines
American offers paid Wi-Fi ranging from $15-$35 depending on the length of the flight and marketplace. All American aircraft have Wi-Fi except for ERJ-145, ERJ-170/175, and CRJ200 flights.
JetBlue Airways
JetBlue offers fast, free Wi-Fi on all aircraft and routes across their fleet and schedule.
Southwest Airlines
Southwest charges $8 for Wi-Fi aboard their planes. However this $8 is good for a whole day of travel, so if you have a connecting flight, you can still use the Wi-Fi you paid for on your connecting flight as well. Those flying on Business Select tickets with Southwest get free Wi-Fi as part of their ticket purchase.
Breeze Airways
Breeze includes free Wi-Fi for travelers on its“Nicest” (first class seating) and “Nicer” (extra legroom seating) fare bundles. Wi-Fi is available for purchase for $8 on its lowest seating bundle known as “Nice.” Wi-Fi is only currently available on select Airbus A220 aircraft and not available on Embraer aircraft, which the airline is phasing out of service.
Alaska Airlines
Alaska offers Wi-Fi for $8 on most flights that is strong enough for streaming apps like Netflix, Hulu, and others. Only “basic” Wi-Fi is available on Alaska’s 737-700 aircraft.
Spirit Airlines
Spirit offers two different Wi-Fi options for purchase. They offer a basic option starting at $5.99 and a streaming option for $7.99. Spirit’s Wi-Fi is also available gate-to-gate as opposed to having to wait until at 10,000 feet in the air. The prices depend on the flight market and trip length. These prices also are only for one flight, so if you have a connecting, you will need to purchase Wi-Fi again for the second flight.
Frontier Airlines & Allegiant Airlines
Frontier and Allegiant Airlines do not currently offer Wi-Fi aboard their flights.
